Description: | Press Information Candles and Jazz in the Church L’Esprit du Jazz Saturday 15th November 7.30pm At Bignor’s Christingle by candlelight Christmas Eve service over 500 candles create a magical atmosphere. On Saturday the 15th November the same atmosphere that attracts so many from miles around, will be laid on for a jazz concert. L’Esprit du Jazz are a trio of versatile professional musicians whose music is a reminder of the great jazz stars such as Django Rheinhardt. There will be tango, swing and the trio promise “a unique sound that is contemporary yet has an air of nostalgia”. Led by Karen Street who has created quite a niche for herself in the UK jazz scene and as a member of the Fairer Sax toured the world, she was recently invited to play on “Strictly Come Dancing”. Karen is at present playing with British jazz singer Tina May in a nationwide tour celebrating the life of Edith Piaf. As a composer her music for saxaphone now appears in virtually every music exam syllabus in the UK. Other group members include Andy Tweed her partner, whose musical works included playing at “Les Miserable” in London and productions at the Birmingham Rep. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and with The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Guitarist Andrew Barrett makes up the trio and like the other members has toured much of Europe in his playing career. |
