Description: | For the Music@Ardingly season finale we are thrilled to welcome Emma Johnson, John Lill and Julian Lloyd Webber, three world famous and well-loved British artists. They have been playing trios together for 20 years and each brings their own unique style to the performance resulting in characterful, convivial ensemble playing. Framing the concert are the great trios for clarinet, cello and piano by Beethoven and Brahms. Beethoven's Gassenhauer Trio is an early work brimming with scintillating wit, and ending with variations on a pop tune of the day. By contrast, Brahms wrote his Clarinet Trio at the end of his life; nostalgia and introspection sit alongside Viennese and Hungarian dance influences in this sublime piece. In between these master works the musicians will also perform solos and duos with which they feel a personal affinity by composers as diverse as Lloyd Webber, Chopin and Weber. |
