Time: | Friday, 12 June 2015, at 10:00pm |
Place: | Westgate Chapel, Lewes |
Description: | Sergei Taneyev String Quintet in C No .2, Op. 16 Before the concert, Westgate Chapel’s Hibbert Room is transformed into a pop-up restaurant as Local Sauce chef Sheba Anvari serves up a delicious two-course meal. Taneyev's opus 16 string quintet is one of his finest chamber works and is performed in the atmospheric and intimate space at Westgate Chapel. Taneyev was a pupil of Rubenstein (piano) and Tchaikovsky (composition) at the Moscow Conservatoire in Russia. His extraordinarily underappreciated skills in counterpoint and harmony honed through close study of Bach and Beethoven, combined with a bold and lyrical style of his own makes Taneyev's music both complex and emotionally plain at once. Performed by violinists Tim Crawford and Beatrice Philips, violists James Boyd and Timothy Ridout and cellist Hannah Sloane. Supper served from 8.45pm |
