Description: | CPE Bach Quartet for piano and strings in D major, WQ94 Catoire Piano Quintet in G, Op. 28 Schumann Waldszenen, Op. 82 Schumann Piano Quartet in E flat, Op. 47 Catoire, a Russian composer of French extraction, is relatively unknown but has been hugely popular in our past Festivals. His piano quintet is a sumptuous masterpiece, though surprisingly short it encompasses a complex world of sounds and textures we have come to expect from this great neglected master. Pianist Tom Poster perform’s Schumann’s delicate “Forest Scene’s” for solo piano, before the Festival finishes with Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E flat – one of the most frequently performed and recorded quartets in the standard repertoire. This evening also brings together ten of the 15 performers from the Festival -pianists - Bengt Forsberg, Mishka Momen & Tom Poster; violinists - Michael Gurevich, Tom Hankey, Beatrice Philips; violists - Timothy Ridout & James Boyd; and cellists Pierre Doumenge. |
