Love for his wife Susana flows in Walton’s Cello Concerto through sensational (BBC Proms) soloist Leonard Elschenbroich, and Elgar’s Edwardian heart is on his sleeve in Salut D’Amour. Then there’s the Manon Lescaut Intermezzo from Puccini’s maiden operatic success. British composer Doreen Carwithen was William Alwyn’s muse and here is her own rarely performed Overture O.D.T.A.A. Finally, fairy-tale romance in The Firebird Suite from Stravinsky’s fantastic ballet (one of the BBC's current Ten Pieces for Primary Children). |
