Title: Chichester City Band Spring Concert
Performed by: Chichester City Band
Time: Saturday, 27 March 2010, at 7:30pm
Place: Selsey Centre, Selsey
Description: City Band Greet the Easter Holidays with a “Spring” in their Step!

Chichester City Band will herald the onset of the Easter Holidays with a Spring Concert in Selsey on Saturday 27th March.

Our concert audiences said they would like to hear us play some of the exciting repertoire that we normally only perform in competitions. So, this concert will feature Kingdom of Dragons by Philip Harper and Music for a Festival by Philip Sparke, which we are performing in competitions this year. Our audiences also told us they are very keen to hear us play more music from the shows, so we hope that Fiddler on the Roof will prove a popular choice.

The concert takes place a week after our performance in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain Qualifying Contest at Stevenage. We had a very strong result in 2009 when the band gained its best result in seven years at the contest. This year, we will be hoping to qualify for the Finals, which take place at the Harrogate International Centre in the autumn.

The band is very pleased to announce that Catherine Jarman has been appointed to the position of principal horn and Emma Button to the position of principal trombone. Together with Iona Harrison (cornet) and Gerren Penfold (euphonium) they make up possibly the youngest principal team in a brass band in the south with an average age of only 22.

We were delighted to have such a large audience for our Chichester Festivities and Christmas concerts last year. If this very welcome trend continues, there is every chance we will fill the Selsey Centre on this occasion.

The band will be under the direction of musical director Martin Grace and bandmaster Ashley Williams, both members of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Service.

The concert takes place at The Selsey Centre, Manor Road, Selsey, PO20 0SE, starting at 7:30pm, doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets are priced £7 senior citizens/full time students, £10 adults. Children are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a paying ticket holder. Tickets will be available on the door and are available in advance now from the band’s Box Office, 01243 573847.
