Title: The Peacemakers by Karl Jenkins
Performed by: The Boundstone Chorus
Promoted by: Boundstone Performing Arts
Time: Saturday, 4 May 2013, at 7:30pm
Place: St Michael & All Angels Church, Lancing
Description: Karl Jenkins takes his message of peace from wide sources and in particular has chosen for his inspiration words of iconic figures including Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Anne Frank, Albert Schweitzer and Terry Waite.

In his introduction Jenkins says “The Peacemakers is dedicated to the memory of all those who lost their lives to armed conflict: in particular, innocent civilians. When I composed The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace for the millennium, it was with the hope of looking forward to a century of peace. Sadly, nothing much has changed.”

The music is made up of seventeen numbers and each of these creates an element of Jenkins’ message. At the beginning of the piece the choir sings the word “peace” in twenty-two different languages and the music develops from there. There is a glimpse of inner peace, the healing peace of a Celtic Blessing, “Evening Prayer” seeks peace at night-time and the words of Martin Luther King seek world peace.
